Arsenal and Germany midfielder, Mesut Ozil said him and his teammates were so surprised with Germany’s 7-1 thrashing of Brazil in the 2014 World Cup, adding that he felt obliged to apologise to an emotional Brazil defender, David Luiz after the game.
Goals from Bayern Munich’s talisman, Thomas Muller, Miroslav Klose, and a double from Toni Kroos had Germany 4-0 up after 20 minutes, making the Arsenal star feel guilty at full time.
Brazil were favourites on papers going into the semi-final encounter with Joachim Low’s side, and were widely expected to go on to claim the trophy on home soil.
The Samba Boys were shocked with 4-0 after 30 minutes and lost the match 7-1, and Ozil was apologetic to Luiz and his team-mates for the nature of the humiliation.
Ozil told Arsenal’s YouTube Channel, “All the players, me as well, were a little bit surprised.
“After 20 mins it’s 4-0 and you’re like ‘What’s happened here?’
“If you lose a big game and you see all the fans outside crying and the players crying, you feel with them.
“So I went to David Luiz and said ‘I really apologise, you have a nice country and nice people’.”
