A man of God and the General Overseer of a church based in Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Jacob Archibong, has been arrested for allegedly raping a married woman during a deliverance.
According to Crime Facts, Pastor Archibong, was said to have told the woman who has been looking for a fruit of the womb for several years, that she must undertake a one-week spiritual assignment for God to open her womb.
He further told her that at the end of the one-week assignment which she must undertake in the church, he would have to give her a spiritual bath.
He also allegedly forbade her husband from coming to see her till the assignment which consisted of dry fasting and other prayers, was over.
According to a resident of the town, on the seventh day of the assignment, the pastor allegedly led the woman to a bush in the back of the church for the spiritual bath and insisted she must strip herself of all forms of clothing, an instruction the woman accepted.
In the process of the spiritual bath, Pastor Archibong allegedly overpowered the woman and raped her.
When the woman got home, she told her husband of the assault and the man went to the village head to lay a complaint leading to Pastor Archibong's invitation to the palace.
During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed that he did not rape the woman of his own volition but that he was instructed by God to sleep with the woman so she could get pregnant.
An angry crowd was said to have marched to his church which was burnt down and he himself would have been lynched if not for the intervention of the village chief and other elders who pleaded that he be handed over to the police.
