Super Falcons star Asisat Oshoala hit four goals as Nigeria thrashed Mali 6-0 in their opening game of the 2016 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations.
Francisca Ordega and Uchechi Sunday were the other scorers for Nigeria who are aiming to defend the title they won in 2014.
Ordega gave Nigeria the lead in the 21st minute before Oshoala made it 2-0 to the Super Falcons.
Sunday kicked off the second half with another goal, this one from from the penalty spot after Osaronoma Igbinovia was fouled in the Malians' penalty box.
Oshoala took over the game, netting in the 64th, 69th and 78th minute to seal the win for Nigeria.
Speaking after the game, the Arsenal Ladies star said her aim is not to finish top scorer at the tournament but to lead the Falcons to the title.
“Basically it is not about Asisat Oshoala, rather the whole Nigerian team. I did not come with a target in mind to win the Most Valuable Player or the top scorer, rather make my country (Nigeria) proud,” she told the official website of CAF.
“And also to show the rest of Africa that we are still around and this is the only way to make that statement.”
The Super Falcons will next face rivals Black Queens of Ghana on Wednesday, November 23 in their second Group B game.
They will also play Kenya in the group stage.
Ghana beat Kenya 3-1 in the other Group B game.
