Super Eagles midfielder John Mikel Obi has undergone surgery in London for an injury with his wife, Olga beside him.
Mikel has been troubled in recent month with a lingering abdominal strain which has made him miss three consecutive games for Tianjin TEDA FC.
The 30-year-old took to his Instagram to announce that he had undergone a successful surgery.
“Surgery went well, rehab next… can’t wait to be back shame I can’t be on the pitch fighting with my team,” he wrote alongside a photo of him in a hospital bed on Instagram.
Although there is no stipulated time of return yet to Mikel, he is set to miss Super Eagles 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) clash against South Africa on Saturday, June 10.
His wife Olga also took to Instagram to share a photo of her hand locked in with Mikel’s, showing her support for her man.
“I will always hold your hand,” the Russian beauty wrote.
In Mikel’s absence, Tianjin Teda lost two games and one just one. They lost 3-0 away at Guangzhou Evergrande FC on April 16 before a 3-1 win over Yanbian Fude on April 22.
On Saturday, April 29, they were thrashed 4-0 away at Hebei CFFC.
Tianjin TEDA are 10th on the Chinese Super League (CSL) table after seven games played.
