The award which held on the night of Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the Ticketpro Dome, Johannesburg, South Africa, witnessed other artistes emerge winners across various categories.
These include Wizkid who was decorated with three awards ('Best Male Artist', 'Artist of the Year, and Best Collaboration),Tekno (Best Breakthrough Act), Patoranking's 'My Woman, My Everything' featuring Wande Coal (Song of The Year)Cassper Nyovest (Best Live Act), Sauti Sol (Best Group), Drake (Best International Act), Emtee (Best Hip hop act), among others.

Patoranking who broke into the limelight with the song 'Alubarika' featuring Timaya released his debut album "God Over Everything" in August 2016, to critical acclaim.
The reggae dancehall act has since been on a steady upwards trajectory, winning a number of awards at the Headies 2014 including Next Rated Act, Best Collaboration for 'Emergency' featuring Runtown, Skalesand Best Reggae/Dancehall single for 'Girlie O' remixfeaturing Tiwa Savage.
