Tekno Miles takes home the award for Best Breakthrough Act at the recently concluded MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) 2016.
The Made Men Music Group (TripleMG) singer edged out Falz (Nigeria) Simi (Nigeria), Emtee (South Africa), Babes Wodumo (South Africa), Franko (Cameroon),Nasty C (South Africa), Nathi (South Africa) and Raymond (Tanzania).
The award which held on the night of Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the Ticketpro Dome, Johannesburg, South Africa, witnessed other artistes emerge winners across various categories.
These include Wizkid who was decorated with three awards ('Best Male Artist', 'Artist of the Year, and Best Collaboration),Tekno (Best Breakthrough Act), Patoranking's 'My Woman, My Everything' featuring Wande Coal (Song of The Year)Cassper Nyovest (Best Live Act), Sauti Sol (Best Group), Drake (Best International Act), Emtee (Best Hip hop act), among others.
The singer has had a pretty great year with his song 'Pana' topping Nigerian radio charts for nine straight weeks and counting according to Playdata, a music service that monitors the most played songs on Nigerian radio.
Having come into the game with his lead single 'Holiday' that featured Davido, and meeting a grand reception for performing song 'Onye Ne Kwu' (a remix of Ice Prince's 'Oleku') at an event, Tekno went on to sign a recording deal in 2013 with Iyanya and Ubi Franklin 's Made Men Music Group.
Under the label, the singer has flourished, releasing well received singles including 'Dance', 'Duro', 'Wash' 'Where' and most recently 'Pana' and 'Diana'.
The singer is already working on his debut album, amidst collaborating with other artists.
From the look of things, we are yet to see the best of Tekno as the singer seems to have the magic wand to create pop hit songs that endear fans to him in Nigeria, across the continent and beyond!
