MAMA 2016 : Wizkid won Best Male African Artist of the Year

Wizkid  is biggest winner on the night going home with three awards - Best Male, Artist of the Year and Best Collaboration Africa at the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) 2016.

The Nigerian pop star, was celebrated on the night, beating AKA, Black Coffee, Diamond Platnumz and Patoranking to the Best Male award.
The singer also went home with African Artist Of The Year edging out  Yemi Alade, Diamond Platnumz, Black Coffee and Sauti Sol.
plThe Star boy finally makes it a treble  winning award for Best Collaboration in DJ Maphorisa's  'Soweto baby', beating Patoranking's 'No kissing' featuring Sarkodie, AKA's 'Baddest' featuring Burna Boy, Khuli Chana and Yanga among others.The award which held on Saturday October 22, 2016 at the Ticketpro Dome, Johannesburg, South Africa, also saw other artistes come out successful in various categories.
Other winners on the night include Cassper Nyovest (Best Live Act), Yemi Alade (Best Female), Sauti Sol (Best Group), Drake (Best International Act), Emtee (Best Hip hop act), Tekno (Best Breakthrough Act), Patoranking's 'My Woman, My Everything'  featuring Wande Coal (Song of The Year)among others.  
The recognition meted out to Wizkid only goes to endorse his undeniable force in 2016 as seen in his exporting of African sound to the international music scene such as the chart topping record breaking international collaboration in 'One dance'.
The singer has since steadily been making waves, gaining strides and introducing the American and international music market to the peculiar sounds emanating from Africa.
This feat from the star boy is inspiring and encouraging other artists to push their music beyond the shores of Africa.

Beyond his personal music force, he has also supported other African acts - Ghanaian trio of R2Bees, Mr Eazi and Efya signing them to his Star Boy Worldwide imprint, and working on  a collaborative project with them.
All this and more shows Wizkid is well deserving of the honour bestowed on him as African Artiste of the Year at the MAMAs 2016.
