What’s wrong with Bobrisky? Why don’t we have music from the neo-phenomenal Nigerian social media celebrity?
Bobrisky is fire right now. 2016 has been the year of the rise of the social media phenomenon who embraces cross-dressing and skin-lightening as his selling point. Bobrisky is a Snapchat celebrity, he has a ‘Bae’ he cannot stop speaking about, so many haters and he sells bleaching cream.
Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, nicknamed Nigeria’s male barbie doll. Thanks to celeb fashion designer/ skincare guru Tiannah styling, he went from been dark to snow white. He has in the past advertised and endorsed her products in several Instagram videos.
Idris has recently been the subject of discussions online because of the very interesting videos/photos he posts on video/photo sharing social networking site snap chat, his before and after photos, his makeup and well-groomed artificial nails.
Bobrisky has been trending on snapchat for a few months now and has at least 20,000 views everyday, especially with his fans wanting to know who his bae is. The mystery bae who he claims is Africa’s fourth richest man, reportedly gave Bobrisky N7 million and a choice Benz. Bobrisky posted pictures of the money after cashing it from the bank, and he has since never looked back.
From appearing on TV shows, to being booked for conferences, Bobrisky has swept across social media like a wildfire, polarising opinions and inspiring support and hate in equal measure. Many of his comments have been screened and analysed by the best media houses, and he has enjoyed so much media than many of Nigeria’s top musicians combined.
Bobrisky is so hot, that anything he touches right now will make the news. But he has failed to see beyond the fashion industry and show more ambition. The music industry is wide open for him, with many producers intimating me about a chance to work with the man. He has his persona going for him, his bleaching cream is a hit, but so too can his music.
Bobrisky;s music won’t exactly be a rarity. Afterall, we have the great Vic O, and Kwality. These music freaks have kept us occupied in previous years, but are currently on a dry spell. Bobrisky needs to step up to the mic and kill it.
I don’t know about the quality of the single, and would not vouch for it. Afterall Bobrisky has shown no music aptitude. But as a business move, that song would be a viral hit…just like Vic O.
